Millefiori, or Lampwork ? |
Paul gave me the cut out brass former for the dragonfly design in 1970. It was meant to be filled up with minute millefiori canes, to create a millefiori Dragonfly. I've never seen a P.Y. paperweight using this technique, so I can only assume it was not successful!
He therefore continued to make Dragonflies using the traditional Lampwork method, as shown in the second picture. There is an interesting story behind this weight. I had been out walking and had found a dead Dragonfly, which I took into work the next day to show Paul.He greatly admired its delicate form, and my engraving of it.Two days later,he came to the Engraving Studio with his interpretation of it, which he presented to me with great delight. |
