When I joined Caithness in October 1968, one of the first visitors to my Engraving "Hut" was Paul Ysart. He had a great interest in Copper Wheel engraving, and was intrigued by my Lathe and Copper Wheels. I discovered, PY unsigned paperweights were sold in the Factory Shop every so often, and in December, this proved to be the case! I bought my first PY in that month, and have treasured it ever since.
My second piece was a gift from Paul, and featured a COBRA. I had seen him make this design on a Sunday a week previously, and had thought the making technique amazing! The small rocks around the Snake were broken pieces of the large pots that Caithness melted it's glass in, and didn't pose a compatability problem.. indeed, they made a great background for this deadly reptile. |
